Dear Srishtian,
Your entire household is cordially invited
for the inauguration ceremony to be held
at our new Srishti building in Pratap Nagar.
SCC's aim is to create a large number of
world-class, well-rounded computer professionals
from Srishti families, who will in turn
enrich our society.
Why is computer
education necessary?
Computers are perhaps the best gift that
science
|
has bestowed in the 20th century. Computers today
facilitate every field of human endeavor, including
telecommunications, transportation,banking and entertainment.
Computer experts from India form the backbone of thousands
of organizations worldwide.
The number of computer experts India produces today
is a lot less than the number that the world needs.
Because of financial, political and other developments,
demand for computer professionals is increasing further.
This fact is reflected by the highly attractive salary
packages that competent computer professionals command
in the market today.
Who should learn computers?
Every individual in the family can benefit from
computer education. School-going children get a
strong academic foundation if exposed to computers
early on. All students pursuing higher education
and professional degrees need to be well-versed
in computer usage, no matter what area they plan
to work in. Employees that have computer skills
can get better growth opportunities at work. Computer
training opens new vistas for unemployed individuals
and retirees seeking fresh opportunities. Computer-skilled
homemakers can use their free time productively.
Weakness of computer
education today
The field of computer science can be viewed as two
parts: Theory and Practice. While these two parts
are interrelated, it is possible to study each one
individually. Just like every good singer need not
be a great musicologist, every adept computer user
need not have deep theoretical knowledge. However,
even among the most practical learners, a theoretical
foundation accelerates learning of new things and
provides continuity and confidence.
Our society needs a large number of confident computer
professionals skilled in practice, who also have
basic theoretical grounding.
Today, thousands of students of BTech, M.Sc, BCA
and MCA completely lack practical knowledge. It
is not uncommon for students to join basic programming
courses at private institutes after spending years
in a computer degree programme. On the other hand,
short-term courses like Java address a narrow area,
but do not give sustainable knowledge in anything.
Even after attending multiple short-term courses,
many students still lack confidence and cannot get
gainfully employed.
In short, computer education today is hopelessly
commercialized. The knowledge level of faculty members
and their interest in students is low, and teaching
is shallow. There is a wide gulf between technology
practiced worldwide and that taught in our institutes.
As products of an education system with no vision,
most computer professionals are overly focused on
their own lives, having no broader understanding
or agenda
